School’s out for Summer

I could easily tell on my way to Mattaw today that school has let out. Unlike in America, you can tell these mid-school and high-school teens are on break because they are gathering fire wood off the side of the street and riding their maize into town on the back of their bicycles. Being out of school isn’t always that much fun,… (more…)

The Average School in Kenya

In Kenya, public schools are usually not much more than cinder-block buildings and mud huts. We visited the local school today and found over 600 children! Not an actual train, but a group of school girls all in a line who found messing with my hair amusing. They all wanted to… (more…)

Happy Birthday

Mattaw Children’s Village is having another birthday party! My boss is planning to celebrate quite a few birthdays this summer so our visitors can enjoy this experience. If there is one thing these kids know how to do, it’s celebrating life. Usually we keep everyone outside the church untill the decorating is done, but today we found some little, helpful… (more…)

Peter and Chumba

I was able to spend  today with Peter (the boy who plays with my camera and has the website cardsforkenya.org). According to one of my coworkers, Caleb, Peter has been asking about me everyday since I left.  He said the other children were too timid to ask, so they would gang up on Peter and make him request the “progress… (more…)
